SELSEY CRICKET CLUB COLTS SECTION
Welcome to the 2008 season.
The
colts section has got a different setup this year although I am still
the overall colts manager, 3 of our younger players each passed the
England Cricket Board Level 1 coaching exam last November and will be
coaching an age group each, they are;
Tom
Cripps - U16
Matt
Leclere - U14
Tom
Amis - U12
They
will be assisted by myself and club stalwart, Pete Driscoll.
Great news !!!!!!!!!!!
We
applied for and were successfully awarded a grant of £1200, this was
made available from W.S.C.C. via their Youth Opportunities Fund. This
money will be exclusively used to purchase new equipment for the colts.
A big thanks to the council for this initiative.
League
This
year for the first time we will have all three age groups in a league,
these games will normally be on Sunday mornings starting at 9:30am. The

Nets
Practice night will be Tuesdays from 6:00pm to 7:30pm ish. If it's wet
then we'll try and do something in the clubhouse but only for the U12s
as we are limited for space, check with me if you’re not sure.
The nets will also be
refurbished.
Equipment
We
have all the cricket equipment necessary, however each boy will need his
own abdominal protector (box) as these are personal items, they should
bring them to all practices and matches, please try and ensure that they
wear proper cricket “pants” or underpants tight enough so their boxes
don't slip out when they run. For matches they need trainers, white
trousers a white shirt and a baseball type hat, we have club jumpers
that the boy's can use. If your son/daughter will be playing regularly
then I suggest that you purchase their own helmet, these are compulsory
in matches and in the nets, although the club has some that the colts
share they get quite sweaty and also have to be adjusted for each colt,
certainly any colt that is playing any senior cricket should have their
own.
The U16’s
will be playing most of their games on grass pitches so I would strongly
advise them to purchase some cricket trainers with spikes, this is a
must for any bowler but batsmen will find them very useful too.
For any of
your cricket equipment try “Game Set and Match” (www.gsam.co.uk)
in Chichester,
they can offer expert advice and competitive prices.
Subscriptions
These have stayed the same as last year, £10.00 and the match fees will
remain at £2.00. Please complete the attached form and return it to me
or to the bar at the clubhouse with your payment a.s.a.p.
If
you have any questions please see me at a practice night or phone me
after 6:00pm on 01243-603605.
Keep a straight bat,

League
This year we will be playing
in the U14 & U16 leagues, these games will normally be on Sunday
mornings starting at 9:30am. Our U14s will be a young side this year and
contain some U12s but it will all be good experience for them. The
first U14 game is Sunday 30th April away at Pagham and the
first U16 game is the next day, Bank Holiday Monday, home to
Littlehampton.
Sussex Junior Cricket
Festival
We have entered our U16s into
the festival which is week commencing 14th August, we topped
our group last year narrowly missing out on a place in the final.
Unfortunately all our games will have to be away this year because the
Fair will be on our ground, so transport will be required. More about
that later when the fixtures are known.
Nets
Practice night will be
Tuesdays from 6:00pm to 7:30pm ish. If it's wet then we'll try and do
something in the clubhouse but we are limited for space, so it would be
best if it is for U14s only, check with me if you’re not sure.

The U16’s
will be playing their games on grass wickets so I would strongly advise
them to purchase some cricket trainers with metal spikes, this is a must
for any bowler but batsmen will find them very useful too.
For any of
your cricket equipment try “Game Set and Match” in Chichester, they can
offer expert advice and competitive prices which includes a discount if
you’re a club member.
Subscriptions
The subs this year are the
same as last, £5.00 for a colt or £10.00 for a family membership. The
family membership includes one colt membership plus social membership
for all the other members of the immediate family. Match fees will be
£2.00. Please complete the attached form and return it to me with your
payment a.s.a.p.

Help required (please)
If any of you parents would
like to help at the practice nights please come along I would be
delighted to see you, the only skill you need is ‘eyes in the back of
your head’. If anyone can help with the scoring or umpiring at matches
that too would be a great help and finally if any of you are interested
in playing for the men’s team please let me know, we are always pleased
to welcome new members.
If you have any questions
please see me at a practice night or phone me after 6:00pm on
01243-603605.
